what we do
We offer music, art, theatre, dance, spoken word, and other types of performance suited to our intimate space. We book things we like and we book them sporadically. Embrace our whimsy! Our weekly
and monthly
events are managed by their individual hosts; contact
those folks directly for more information on those events. compensation
Performers are welcome to utilize a tip jar and/or sell merchandise during events. We regret that
we cannot currently provide food, drink, money, women, favors, goats, or anything else except appreciation, smiles, and hugs.
space and sound
We like to rearrange the furniture. That means sometimes we have a stage and lights, and sometimes we don't. Did we mention the whimsy? Indoor sound system: We have a 4-channel, low-wattage PA system with two (12") main speakers.
The PA has XLR (microphone) and 1/4" (instrument) inputs on each channel, and the capability to run a CD or MP3 player.
We do not provide microphones, microphone cables, or microphone stands. (We used to provide them, but they kept getting stolen or broken, so we
gave up.)
We also do not have a technician to run the system, so if you aren't comfortable running your own sound, you will need to bring a friend who can.
Outdoor / additional sound reinforcement: Play Your Own Music can provide gear and a person to operate that gear for a reasonable price. Go visit Vince and Carolyn for all your music needs. They're awesome, and really nice, too. Tell them we said hello. a note about content
Please
be considerate of our location and the fact that, as a public
establishment, children (and their concerned parents) may be present at
any given time. We are not in the business of censoring people; we
appreciate those bands who understand the need to voluntarily refrain
from language or behavior that could be considered to be more extreme
than PG-rated (such as use of the "f" and "s" words or explicit
descriptions of sexual or violent conduct).
promotion
We promote our events through a monthly flier calendar, the local paper, our email newsletter, our MySpace page, and this website. Once your event is booked, we'll need a one- to two-sentence "blurb," a JPG image (approximately 250 x 200 px), and your website URL. We also recommend that you make print and/or web flyers. Send or drop off handbills and posters to us at:
312 S. Carson St. Carson City, NV
89701
(If you are mailing them, write "promo materials for EVENT on DATE" on the outside of the package.)
